A true Louis Weisdorf design, drawing the eyes with sumptuous light and a mesmerizing silhouette of repeating shapes. Often used to make traditional orb lanterns, the Japanese rice paper serves as inspiration for the light, airy Turbo Pendant from Gubi. The construction of the Japanese lanterns uses a principle Weisdorf and his legendary teacher Poul Henningsen championed, the covering of the light source for glare-free comfort. Designed in 1965, this piece substitutes rice paper for slats of honed aluminum. Arranged with Weisdorf's eye for repetition and dynamic viewing angles, the slats spiral down in endless curves. The shade is a satisfying element to look at even with the lights off, as shadows naturally seep into the openings for big contrast. The bulbs inside create an ambient glow that sharpens the flowing shapes to create a dazzling view from any angle.
