These pieces are made from padauk and boxwood. Each piece is masterfully turned on the lathe one piece at a time to exacting standards while the knights are hand carved by the most skilled craftsmen in the field. The pieces are sealed in a semi-gloss lacquer giving the pieces the perfect polished look. In keeping with the original design, the rook and knight have king-side stamping to identify them from the queen-side pieces.This is a library size set with a 3.5" tall king with a base diameter of 1.6", an ideal size for the casual chess game at home. The pieces are heavily weighted for superior stability on the chess board with the full set weighing an impressive thirty-six ounces. Pieces have thick green baize pads for a soft feel on the chess board. We include two spare queens for pawn promotion.
